Procedure

Compilation of documents with the assistance of the adoption placement agency (AVS).

Sending the documents to Bangkok.

Waiting for a child placement proposal.

Participating in a waiting-period seminar.

Opportunity to attend EfK meetings.

Receiving a child placement proposal through the AVS.

Certification of consent to the child’s placement, including a commitment to cover costs.

Stay in Thailand (interview in English at DCY), foster care.

Return to Germany.

Follow-up care, integration reports.

After registration (adoption under Thai law), the adoption must be recognized and formalized by the family court.

Through the adoption decree, the child acquires the right to German citizenship. This procedure also definitively resolves the issue of the adopted child’s name.

Duration of stay: approx. 4 weeks.

EfK Partner: A Mongolian EfK staff member with very good German language skills accompanies and assists the traveling parents on site.

Procedure

Compilation of documents with the assistance of the Adoption Placement Agency (AVS).

Sending the documents to Ulaanbaatar.

Waiting period following receipt and approval of the application for a child placement.

Participation in a waiting period seminar.

Opportunity to attend EfK meetings.

Receipt of a child placement proposal through the AVS.

Stay in Mongolia, adoption decree with full legal effect (full adoption).

Return to Germany.

Follow-up care, integration reports.

We recommend that the family court recognize these and assess their effectiveness.

Return to Germany.

Requirements

Placement with childless married couples and married couples with one child. The child must not be a biological child shared by the applicants. Both spouses must be at least 25 years old. Applicants must be involuntarily childless, meaning that pregnancy is unlikely or that a (further) pregnancy is not recommended for medical reasons.

Duration of stay: approximately 6–8 weeks.

EfK Partner: A German EfK staff member accompanies and assists the traveling parents on site.

Sending the documents to Colombo.

Waiting period for a child match.

Participation in a waiting-period seminar.

Opportunity to participate in EfK meetings.

Stay in Sri Lanka; adoption decree with limited effect.

Return to Germany.

The adoption must be recognized and converted by the family court.

Upon conversion, the child becomes eligible for German citizenship. In addition, inheritance rights are settled.

Placement with childless married couples and married couples with up to two children. One spouse must be at least 30 years old.

Duration of stay: A visit lasting a few days; a trip to pick up the child lasting approximately 4–6 weeks.

Partner in Togo

Comité National d’Adoption d’Enfant au Togo (CNAET) in Lomé (Togo’s state-run adoption agency).

EfK partner: A Togolese EfK staff member accompanies and supports the parents on site. He has excellent German language skills.

Procedure

Compiling the documents with the help of the adoption agency (AVS).

Sending the file to Lomé.

Waiting for a child match.

Attending a waiting-period seminar.

Receiving a child match through the AVS.

First trip to Togo to meet the child.

Adoption decree with full legal effect (full adoption).

Pick up the child in Togo.

Return to Germany.
